-
Jour 2 — Montréal
Montreal. Spend the day discovering Montréal on foot. Climb to the lookout on Mount Royal for the view over the city and the St. Lawrence, wander the neighbourhoods below the mountain, and give the evening to one of the best food scenes in North America. Hotel: Hôtel Les Suites Labelle (or similar)
-
Jour 3 — Québec
Québec City. Follow the St. Lawrence east to Québec City, the only walled city north of Mexico. Walk the ramparts and the narrow lanes of the Petit-Champlain quarter, beneath the towers of Château Frontenac. Hotel: Hotel Le Concorde (or similar)
-
Jour 4 — Québec
Québec City. A full day in Québec City, between the Plains of Abraham, the lively squares of the old town and four centuries of French heritage at every corner. Suggestion (not included): a half-day out to Montmorency Falls and Île d'Orléans, with its farms, cider houses and river views. Hotel: Hotel Le Concorde (or similar)
-
Jour 5 — Rimouski
Rimouski. Continue along the south shore, where the St. Lawrence widens until the far bank disappears from sight. You reach Rimouski, gateway to Eastern Québec and the Gaspé Peninsula. Just west of town, Bic National Park unfolds a coastline of coves and headlands where grey seals haul out on the rocks. Hotel: Comfort Inn Rimouski (or similar)
-
Jour 6 — Carleton Sur Mer
Carleton Sur Mer. Turn inland and cross the Matapédia Valley, following one of the world's great salmon rivers through forested hills. You come out on Chaleur Bay at Carleton-sur-Mer, set between the mountains and the water, with sandy beaches and a climb to Mont Saint-Joseph for panoramic coastal views. Hotel: Manoir Belle Plage (or similar)
-
Jour 7 — Percé
Percé. Follow the bay east to Percé, facing the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Percé Rock rises straight from the sea just offshore, and the light on it changes hour by hour. Walk the trails of the Géoparc above the village for the classic view over the whole bay. Hotel: Riotel Percé (or similar)
-
Jour 8 — Percé
Percé. A full day in Percé, between the village, its harbour and the coastal paths. Suggestion (not included): the boat crossing to Bonaventure Island, home to one of the largest northern gannet colonies in the world, with seals and seabirds along the way. Seasonal operation. Hotel: Riotel Percé (or similar)
-
Jour 9 — Gaspé
Gaspé. A short drive north brings you to Gaspé, and with it the tip of the peninsula. Devote the day to Forillon National Park, where the Appalachians plunge into the sea: walk out to Cap Gaspé and its lighthouse at "land's end", watch seals from the shore at Cap Bon-Ami, and scan the water for whales feeding close in. Hotel: Hôtel Baker - Gaspé (or similar)
-
Jour 10 — Parc National De La Gaspésie
Sainte Anne Des Monts. Take Route 132 along the northern shore, the most dramatic stretch of the peninsula, where cliffs drop into the gulf and fishing villages cling to the coast between Rivière-au-Renard and Sainte-Anne-des-Monts. Turn inland into the Chic-Choc Mountains to reach Gaspésie National Park. Hotel: Hôtel & cie (or similar)
-
Jour 11 — Parc National De La Gaspésie
Sainte Anne Des Monts. A full day in the heart of the Chic-Chocs: alpine summits, deep valleys and clear lakes. Mont Albert and its plateau offer one of the finest hikes in eastern Canada, and the park shelters one of the last caribou herds south of the St. Lawrence (summit access subject to park opening dates). Hotel: Hôtel & cie (or similar)
-
Jour 12 — Rimouski
Rimouski. Head back west along the coast, through Sainte-Anne-des-Monts and Matane, with the river always on your right. You return to Rimouski, where the Pointe-au-Père site tells the story of the Empress of Ireland, Canada's greatest maritime disaster, beside a lighthouse and the submarine Onondaga. Hotel: Comfort Inn Rimouski (or similar)
-
Jour 13 — Saguenay
Saguenay. Cross the St. Lawrence by ferry, watching the south shore recede and the Laurentian hills rise ahead (crossing subject to schedule and availability, advance booking recommended). Continue through Tadoussac, at the meeting of two rivers, and follow the fjord inland to the Saguenay. Hotel: Hotel Le Montagnais (or similar)
-
Jour 14 — Saguenay
Saguenay. A full day along the Saguenay Fjord, one of the longest in the world, where cliffs rise 300 metres straight out of near-black water. Baie-Éternité and the village of Sainte-Rose-du-Nord are among its finest viewpoints. Suggestion (not included): a whale-watching cruise from Tadoussac, where belugas live year-round and minke, fin and blue whales come to feed in summer. Hotel: Hotel Le Montagnais (or similar)
-
Jour 15 — Mauricie
St Alexis Des Monts. Head south through the Laurentian wildlife reserve, a vast expanse of lakes and boreal forest, then west to the Mauricie. This is Québec's old logging and hydro country, strung along the Saint-Maurice River. Hotel: Pourvoirie Du Lac Blanc (or similar)
-
Jour 16 — Mauricie
St Alexis Des Monts. A full day in La Mauricie National Park, a landscape of some 150 lakes set among rounded hills and mixed forest. Paddle a canoe on Lac Wapizagonke, walk to a waterfall, and end the day with the silence of the boreal forest. Hotel: Pourvoirie Du Lac Blanc (or similar)
